Friday the 11th was a day marked down in the history books for South Africa and the rest of the world. Fifa fever was everywhere and man could you hear it. The local sound of the vuvuzela echoed through Cape Town none stop while people dressed up from head to toe marched through the streets crazed with football fever. It was a day surely remembered by everyone who witnessed it.

With Long street being turned onto its head with a couple thousand + people roaming the street celebrating in true African style, we at Brick City where preparing ourselves for a night of unknown possibilities. All the DJs had been briefed on what time they where on, how much bar tab they had and if need be, be in for a sound check. Other than that, we waited... waited for the doors to open for a wave of eager dance floor / soccer fans. When this happened it didnt stop, marking Brick City the second best night @ Fiction DJ Bar in the past couple of years.

First off in the DJ booth we had Stone-Age Citizen. They opened the night with a fresh / fun sound bringing us a mash up of indie, disco funk mixed with some good old electro boogie. These two chaps pulled off a good set as they welcomed everyone to the dance floor and kept them there until Das Kapital stepped up. This crazy cat pulled out some pure evil as he slammed it down for a hour. Mixing bassline electro with drum n bass, has never been done so smoothly by a new comer before. We didn't expect such a slamming set from a kid who was so nervous 10 minutes before his set. This in return, turned Fiction into a bee hive, as the crowed turned into a mosh pit of swarming bodies. People on shoulders, hands turned into fists and feet levitating off the floor boards, I personal thought medics where going to be called in, but no, the fury continued as the swamp of madness continued till George Daniels popped up from behind the decks.

"Hello... boys and girls" I saw him mumble as he slammed down some phat electro breaks for his opening track. Same as always... crazy boys and girls doing nasty things on the dance floor as before. I knew it was love, thats what George is about. If you spend a moment getting to know him, he's a true legend with a strong sense of kindness and good will. But this all seems fake as when I listened to his set, it was filthy. The kind of filth that comes on late night TV. The stuff thats R rated and Net Nanny spends millions on trying to block. That was just my impression, but then again, the people moving about seemed to reconfirm that. But then again drum and bass has a weird affect on the human body. Kicks and snares done such a rhythmical way, hence causing the head to jerk either front to back or left to right followed by a two step foot jive. Its like none other dance move known to man, and I witnessed this increase as Dj Totem turned up the bass with his pure jump up style. Mixing like some of Cape Towns finest this new comer turned more than a few heads. With unmatched skills, Totem pull off an energetic set with massive jump up rollers. Watching him from the dance floor was entertaining as he was cool and collective while mixing in tracks every 3 to 4 minutes. Some of the drops where monsters as his track selection was spot on and the timing perfect. Every time I looked behind myself I saw faces pulling some mad moves as kids where turning into possessed beasts, totally out of control, captured in the musical mayhem being blasted through the system. I'm pretty sure the amps at Fiction went through some serious pain, as the bass only got louder as the night grew older because the bass heavy silent witness Dj Dynamo red lined the place F%&k up.

Each track hand picked for a long time over due set, Dynamo tor a new sphincter into Fictions pretty reputation. It was horrible. I felt sorry for the place. A slow tear slid down my cheek as I watch the crowed rejoice at the bass heavy music. I didn't know if I had to run and turn it off or join in on the madness. It was a tough call and a heart wrenching moment as I felt stuck between a rock and a hard place not knowing what to do. But in the end I was quickly over whelmed by everyone around me, so wiping my tears aside with my sleeve, I joined in and jumped around until Jason Borland closed off the night. With my heart on my sleeve and feeling rather vulnerable I didn't stop moving until the clock struck 4. Reason being, Borland plaid some of those tracks guys like myself cant get away from. Locked in, and super jived I dance around with the remaining ayoba crowed until the last vuvuzela blasted from the bar, calling it a night. Lights turned on, music turned off, that was it. As quickly as it started it ended, a moment sucked in and spat out through time bring us to a end of a most legendary evening.
